About The Learning Hive

A calm, confidence‐building learning space in Woodstock, Ontario

At The Learning Hive, we believe every child deserves the tools, support and opportunities to thrive. Whether your child needs a dedicated reading tutor, help mastering math concepts, or guidance in homeschooling, we’re here to provide gentle, expert instruction rooted in how children learn best.

Our centre was founded in 2020 when the pandemic highlighted a gap: too many children were struggling, falling behind, and feeling lost in systems that weren’t built for them. We created The Learning Hive to be different - a place grounded in research, expert practice and individualized support.

We are committed to more than just helping kids reach grade level. We’re here to help each child understand deeply, gain confidence, and discover how capable they truly are. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. We believe in progress - meeting each child exactly where they are, academically, and guiding them through thoughtful, structured learning with kindness and care.

Our Story

The Learning Hive was created during the height of the pandemic, a time when many children were struggling academically and emotionally. We stepped in to fill a gap, offering structured literacy, evidence-based math instruction, and a calm environment where students could rediscover their confidence.

As families continued to ask for more support, we grew.

We introduced homeschool enrichment.

We expanded tutoring.

We added specialty subjects taught by trained educators.

And now, we are proud to offer The Learning Hive Academy, a full-time mixed-age program grounded in research and individualized instruction.

Even as we’ve grown, our heart remains the same:

We support learners through a range of programs designed to meet a variety of needs, learning styles, and family preferences:

  • A full-time, mixed-age program offering structured literacy, evidence-based math, hands-on learning, and gentle, predictable routines.

  • Individualized support in reading, writing, math, and academic subjects, using research-backed instruction.

  • Part-time learning options that mirror the Academy’s approach for families who need flexibility.

  • Early learning programs that build foundational skills through playful, intentional instruction.

  • Hands-on educational experiences that prioritize joy, confidence, and connection.

  • We believe children deserve instruction that is research-based, explicit, and clear. We also believe they deserve kindness, encouragement, and time to learn deeply.

  • Every program is individualized. We don’t rush, label, or push. We support progress, not perfection.

  • Children learn best when they feel safe. From routines to visual schedules to gentle transitions, we ensure the environment supports emotional regulation and confidence.

  • Our Academy and homeschool classes group students by readiness, not birth year. This creates natural mentorship, reduces social pressure, and allows children to progress at the pace that fits them.

  • Locally owned, locally operated, and deeply connected to Oxford County, we are a team of educators who care about the children in this community.

The Learning Hive is an independent school and educational hub offering families a calm, structured, confidence-building alternative to traditional classrooms.

What began in 2020 as a one-table tutoring practice has grown into a community of families who believe that children deserve more than one-size-fits-all learning. Today, The Learning Hive includes a registered private school (The Learning Hive Academy), individualized tutoring, homeschool classes, and specialty subjects that support children from preschool through high school.
