One to One Tutoring

Ms. Abby brings a calm, nurturing presence shaped by six years of working alongside child actors in Vancouver’s film and television industry. In this fast-paced environment, she gained extensive experience supporting children through new situations, big emotions, and challenging moments with patience, clear communication, and genuine care.

Fluent in French, Ms. Abby values communication, cultural awareness, and creating an environment where children feel understood and supported. She is also highly creative and has played the violin for more than 18 years, bringing an appreciation for music, creativity, and the arts to her work with children.

At The Learning Hive, Ms. Abby focuses on helping learners feel comfortable, confident, and engaged. She approaches each child with warmth and steadiness, adapting to their individual needs while creating a supportive space where they can ask questions, take risks, and feel proud of their progress.

Ms. Ashley is an Early Childhood Educator who brings a warm, patient, and encouraging approach to her work with students at The Learning Hive. As a tutor, she is gifted at supporting learners with middle school mathematics, helping students strengthen foundational skills, work through challenging concepts, and build greater confidence in their abilities.

Ms. Ashley understands that math can quickly become frustrating when students feel unsure of themselves or have gaps in their understanding. She focuses on breaking concepts into manageable steps, giving learners the time and support they need to make sense of what they are doing rather than simply memorizing a procedure.

Outside of The Learning Hive, Ms. Ashley is a wife and mom to two young boys, Benson and Emmett. She enjoys spending time with her family and baking whenever she gets the chance.

Ms. Brittany is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Education at Western University and brings enthusiasm, creativity, and a thoughtful approach to her work with students at The Learning Hive.

Before joining the tutoring team, Brittany was already a familiar face within The Hive community as a volunteer. Her ability to connect naturally with children, remain patient through challenging moments, and encourage learners without creating pressure made tutoring a natural next step.

Having spent many years involved in dance, Ms. Brittany also understands the value of practice, perseverance, and breaking larger goals into smaller, achievable steps. She brings these qualities into her tutoring sessions, working alongside students as they strengthen academic skills and become more comfortable tackling things that once felt difficult.

Ms. Brittany wants learners to feel encouraged, understood, and proud of the progress they make through consistent effort.

Ms. Elliana is an Early Childhood Educator with experience supporting children from the toddler years through Grade 5. She brings a strong understanding of child development to her tutoring sessions and enjoys helping younger learners build the foundational skills they need for continued success at school.

Ms. Elliana believes that effective teaching begins with understanding the whole child. She takes time to build genuine relationships with her students and learn about their strengths, interests, and individual needs so that instruction can feel approachable and meaningful.

A lifelong learner herself, Ms. Elliana loves reading, discovering new things, and sharing that curiosity with children. Her goal is to create a calm and encouraging tutoring environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, working through challenges, and experiencing the satisfaction that comes from realizing they can do something that once felt difficult.

Ms. Glenna is an experienced Primary/Junior teacher with more than 15 years of teaching experience in the community. She has a particular passion for literacy and for helping students develop the skills, confidence, and independence they need to succeed.

A lifelong learner herself, Ms. Glenna loves sharing her enthusiasm for learning, books, and reading with her students. She brings warmth, experience, and a strong understanding of how children learn to her work at The Learning Hive, and enjoys helping each learner build on their strengths while receiving support in the areas where they need it most.

Outside of teaching, Ms. Glenna is a mom to two daughters and shares her home with a houseful of pets. She enjoys travelling and learning about new places, reading, spending time at the beach, and camping.

Ms. Laura is the Founder and Director of The Learning Hive. She holds a Master of Arts in Sociology with a specialization in Children and Education and is trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach to structured literacy. She continues to pursue professional learning in literacy, mathematics, dyscalculia, and evidence-based approaches to supporting children who learn differently.

Laura founded The Learning Hive in 2020 after seeing the need for individualized instruction that went beyond homework help. She is especially passionate about structured literacy, explicit mathematics instruction, and identifying the foundational skills that may be preventing a learner from moving forward.

Her approach to tutoring combines high-quality, research-backed instruction with patience and a strong understanding of the individual child. Laura believes meaningful progress happens when students receive clear teaching at the right level, experience success, and gradually begin to see themselves as capable learners.

Ms. Lovjot holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science and brings a strong academic background in mathematics, science, technology, and problem solving to her work at The Learning Hive. She has experience teaching students in both in-person and online settings across Math, English, Science, and Computer Science.

As a tutor, Ms. Lovjot enjoys helping students take complex ideas and break them into smaller, more understandable pieces. She adapts her instruction to the learner in front of her, providing additional explanation, practice, and guidance where needed while encouraging students to become increasingly independent in their thinking.

Her analytical background is balanced by a patient and encouraging teaching style. Ms. Lovjot wants students to feel comfortable asking questions and working through mistakes rather than becoming discouraged when something does not make sense immediately.

Outside of teaching, she enjoys travelling, exploring new places, and continuing to learn and expand her own knowledge.

Ms. Malory is a Registered Early Childhood Educator with several years of experience working at I. L. Thomas Elementary. She is also an SK-3 educator at The Learning Hive Academy, giving her a strong understanding of early elementary development and the foundational skills children need as they progress through school.

As a tutor, Ms. Malory primarily supports elementary-aged learners. She believes strong relationships are an important part of effective teaching and takes time to understand each child’s strengths, needs, and individual way of learning.

Ms. Malory brings patience, creativity, and encouragement to her sessions. She enjoys using hands-on activities, games, and manageable steps to help students practise skills while experiencing regular success.

Outside of The Learning Hive, she loves being creative and spending time outdoors. She enjoys baking, cooking, knitting, crocheting, puzzles, and spending time with her fiancé and their very full house of pets.

Ms. Melanie is a Mechatronics Engineering graduate currently completing her Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering at Western University, with a focus on controls and robotics. Her background brings a strong foundation in mathematics, problem solving, analytical thinking, and real-world applications to her work with students.

At The Learning Hive, Ms. Melanie primarily supports students in Grades 9-12 mathematics. She helps learners strengthen foundational skills, work through challenging concepts, and develop a deeper understanding of the mathematics they encounter in high school. Her goal is to make math feel approachable and manageable while building genuine confidence and independence.

Ms. Melanie also has experience coaching youth in soccer and ringette, where she developed a strong appreciation for patience, encouragement, and positive reinforcement. She creates a supportive environment where students can ask questions, work through mistakes, and feel proud of their progress.

Ms. Nicole was born and raised in Woodstock and holds a Bachelor of Science in Honours Biology from the University of Waterloo. Her science background brings strong analytical thinking, curiosity, and an appreciation for understanding how and why things work to her role as a tutor.

Nicole has long been drawn to education and has spent many years involved in her children’s schools as both a parent and volunteer. She loves working individually with students, getting to know how they think, and helping them work through skills or concepts that may initially feel confusing.

As a tutor at The Learning Hive, Ms. Nicole brings warmth, energy, and plenty of encouragement to her sessions. She wants students to feel comfortable asking questions and persevering when learning becomes challenging, while helping them recognize the progress they are making along the way.

Outside of The Hive, Nicole is a mom of three and enjoys spending time with her family.

Evening Education Manager

Ms. Sarah is the Evening Education Manager at The Learning Hive and brings a strong background in early childhood education and hands-on experience working with children in both individual and group settings. Her experience includes classroom teaching, one-to-one instruction, and private gymnastics coaching, giving her a well-rounded understanding of how children learn, communicate, and respond to different teaching approaches.

As a tutor, Ms. Sarah particularly enjoys supporting Primary and Junior learners in literacy and mathematics. She combines clear, structured instruction with creativity and encouragement, helping students work through challenging skills without allowing learning to feel overwhelming.

Ms. Sarah is committed to continuing her own professional learning and regularly expands her knowledge of effective literacy and mathematics instruction. She wants students to understand what they are learning, recognize their own progress, and become increasingly independent and confident learners.

Ms. Victoria holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a post-graduate diploma in Child and Youth Care. She brings a diverse background working with children in educational and supportive settings, including as a preschool music teacher, piano and voice teacher, classroom-based child therapist with the Toronto District School Board, and supply teacher.

As a tutor at The Learning Hive, Ms. Victoria focuses on getting to know each learner as an individual and understanding what helps them feel comfortable, supported, and ready to learn. She believes in meeting students where they are and creating a warm, welcoming environment where they feel safe asking questions, trying new things, and building confidence in their abilities.

Outside of The Learning Hive, Ms. Victoria enjoys spending time with her husband, their young son, Dax, and their family and friends. She also loves music, cooking, and baking whenever she gets the chance.
